My Life in Music

My Life in Music by Nupu Press

Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song and I’ll try not to sing out of key.

I
Life was so wonderful, a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide.
Hello teacher, tell me what’s my lesson.
And I stop and I turn and I go for a ride.
I’m standing in the wind but I never wave bye-bye.

The seasons have all gone.
I would have stayed up with you all night had I known how to save a life.
Now all them things that seemed so important, well mister, they just vanished right into the air.
I focus on the pain, the only thing that’s real.
You’re the only one who really knew me at all.

II
Then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible, logical, responsible, practical.
I’m on a ride and I want to get off, but they won’t slow down the roundabout.
I’ve been standing in the rain, drenched and soaked with pain.
Don’t let my glad expression give you the wrong impression. It means nothing to me.

An ocean of violets in bloom. Only hope can keep me together.
Mother always told me be careful of who you love, and be careful of what you do ’cause the lie becomes the truth.

Live those dreams, scheme those schemes.
You can’t hurry love, no, you just have to wait.
But if you got the notion, I second that emotion.
Won’t you show for me and I will show for you.
This is all about the circles we’ve found.

When he walked me home that night, all the stars were shining bright.
Watching in slow motion as you turn around and say. We can dance forever.

Here comes the sun and I say. Just keep moving.

III
Go west! To begin life anew.
I can spread my wings.
Let’s swim to the moon.
Et bang! On embrasse.
Gonna be some sweet sounds coming down on the nightshift.
But I’m a million different people from one day to the next.
They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe.

With the lights out, it’s less dangerous.
’Cause it’s a bittersweet symphony, this life.
Here we are now, entertain us.
I see friends shaking hands, saying how do you do.
And I scream from the top of my lungs: what’s going on?
I feel stupid and contagious. Just one thing makes me forget: red red wine.

Bang bang, I hit the ground.
What have I become, my sweetest friend.
Bang bang, that awful sound.
Everyone I know goes away in the end.
Bang bang, I hit the ground.

I am your shadow.
Like a river that don’t know where it’s flowing, I took a wrong turn and I just kept going.
I am your rain.
Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones.
I am your longing.
Move over, Rover, and let Jimi take over.
A little of your pain.
Despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage.
Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose.

I would write across the sky in letters that would soar a thousand feet high. Who will save your soul?

Because of all my pride, the tears I’ve got to hide.
I just need some place where I can lay my head.
Believe in me, help me believe in anything.
Year after year, running over the same old ground.
Like a rolling stone. I want to be someone who believes.
We found the same old fears.

Here comes the sun. And I go back to black.

IV
I get knocked down but I get up again.

I’ve been moving so long. Thank you, India.
The days all feel the same.
Everywhere you go, always take the weather with you.
No ties to bind me, no reasons to remain.
Two drifters off to see the world, there’s such a lot of world to see.
Moving, just keep moving.

I get knocked down but I get up again, you’re never going to keep me down.

Ain’t it funny how the night moves.
Goodbye stranger, it’s been nice.
When you just don’t seem to have as much to lose.
Hope you find your paradise.
Strange how the night moves.
I know a place, y’all. I’ll take you there.

We are drinking beer at noon on Tuesday.
And I’m feeling good.
All I’ve got’s this sunny afternoon.
I’m easy come, easy go.
Maybe you’re the same as me.
Little high, little low.
We see things they’ll never see.
We got a groovy kind of love.
You don’t own me, don’t tie me down, ’cause I’ll never stay.
I’ve got one hand in my pocket and the other one is giving a high five.
Here I am honey, you cry to me.
All that I can see is just a yellow lemon tree.
You do something to me.
Let it be.
Talk to me.
I can set your secrets free, baby.

Oh, let’s get out of this place before they tell us that we’ve just died.

V
I went down to the demonstration.
I stood up and then I screamed aloud.
It’s like the more money we come across.
The more problems we see.
I don’t wanna be part of your problems.
Don’t wanna be part of your crowd.
Oh, it’s a disgrace to see the human race in a rat race.
War, children, it’s just a shot away.

I see no changes. All I see is racist faces.
And I won’t put my hands up and surrender.
There’s war on the streets and the war in the Middle East.
This new century keeps bringing you down.
Instead of war on poverty, they got a war on drugs so the police can bother me.
Picket lines and picket signs.
I’ve walked these streets in a spectacle of wealth and poverty.
Don’t punish me with brutality.
A hungry mob is an angry mob.
Wearing smells from laboratories facing a dying nation.
You won’t fool the children of the revolution.
Talk to me, so you can see what’s going on.

Won’t you help to sing these songs of freedom?

Let the sunshine in.
We’re fools to make war on our brothers in arms.
Let’s change the way we eat, let’s change the way we live and let’s change the way we treat each other.
All we are saying is give peace a chance.

VI
Oh I’m scared of the middle place between light and nowhere.

Here I am, on the road again.
We just pass the time in our hotel rooms.
For a minute there, I lost myself.
I don’t know where my soul is, I don’t know where my home is.
Two thousand miles I roamed.
It’s a wild world.
Hold my hand, I’ll take you to the promised land.

My Life in Music by Nupu Press

VII
Stars fading but I linger on, dear.
The weather’s changing as I look at your face.
Say nighty night and kiss me.
So happy together.

Let’s have a drink, it’s marguerita time, after nine, summertime, any time.
I never understood a single word he said but I helped him drink his wine.
You know the feeling love can bring.

He’d come and tell me everything is all right.
He’d kiss and tell me everything is all right.
So happy together.

Yes, we’ll thrive on, keep alive on, just nothing but kisses, with “Mr” and “Mrs”.
So happy together.

I don’t know where the sun beams end and the star light begins, it’s all a mystery.
Do you remember I thought it was confetti in our hair.
That night on our honeymoon, we stayed in separate rooms.
Sometimes I feel like my only friend is the city I live in.
A time to plant, a time to reap.
I wait in the darkness of my lonely room.
Filled with sadness, filled with gloom.
You gave me pale shelter.

Here comes the sun. And I go back to black.

My Life in Music by Nupu Press

VIII
Hello darkness, my old friend.

I am your madness.
Lightning crashes.
I am your tears.
You are someone else.
I am your sadness.
That’s me in the corner.
I am your fears.

Why can’t you see. We live together in a photograph of time.
That nature has its way of warning me.
You’re on my shelf of broken things.
I fake it so real I am beyond fake.

I am restless, I am your dreams.
That long black cloud is coming down.
I am the moments in between.
I feel I’m knocking on heaven’s door.
Some day you will ache like I ache.

Some guys, they just give up living.
And start dying little by little, piece by piece.
I know it sounds absurd but please tell me who I am.
I’ll bury my soul in a scrapbook.
Let’s do some living after we die.
Ashes to ashes. This is the sign of the times.

You say why and I say I don’t know.
I can’t be holding on to what you got when all you’ve got is hurt.

IX
Walk on through the wind.
Time can do so much.
Walk on through the rain.
Now we’re back on the train.
At the end of the storm there’s a golden sky.
July, she will fly.
Walk on with hope in your heart.
And give no warning to her flight.
And don’t be afraid of the dark.

Here comes the sun and I say. You got it.

My Life in Music by Nupu Press

X
The moon stood still on Blueberry Hill.
I know you feel the way I do.

Dance with me, make me sway.
Oh your hair is beautiful tonight.
Like a lazy ocean hugs the shore.
I thought I heard you call my name.
Hold me close, sway me more.
Ain’t nobody makes me feel this way.
When we dance you have a way with me.
So if you’re crazy, I don’t care, you amaze me.
Stay with me, sway with me.

Close your eyes, give me your hand.
You can leave your hat on.
Let loving start.
Black panties with an angel’s face.
Don’t you know happiness is a warm gun.

You and I collapsed in love.
I hear you call my name and it feels like home.
I stand in front of you. I’ll take the force of the blow. Protection.
If I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world.
Quand il me prend dans ses bras, il me parle tout bas, je vois la vie en rose.
Bring it on home to me.

Oh can’t you see what love has done?
We kiss and we cuss and we carry on until the break of dawn.
A little less fight and a little more spark.
Life is like a pipe and I’m a tiny penny rolling up the walls inside.
I don’t know why I love you.
You went back to what you knew.
So far removed from all that we went through.
Strumming my pain with his fingers.
My odds are stacked. I go back to black.

My Life in Music by Nupu Press

XI
Now all my friends are wearing worried smiles, living out a dream of what they was.
Don’t you think it’s sometimes wise not to grow up?
Upstairs in bed with my ex boy.
Are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?
I just wanna fly.

I travel the world and the seven seas.
Searching places to find.
Everybody’s looking for something.
A piece of something to call mine.
I hope it doesn’t take the rest of my life.
Until I find what it is that I’ve been looking for.

Zipping up my boots, going back to my roots, to the place of my birth.
I’m homeward bound.
Oh yes, we will find out.
Well, they shake their heads and they look at me as if I’ve lost my mind.
Watch what you say or they’ll be calling you a radical, a liberal, fanatical, criminal.
I wonder about the loneliness that’s mine.

Take me somewhere I can breathe.
If I could start again, a million miles away.
I would keep myself, I would find a way.
Well, you don’t know what we can find.

My Life in Music by Nupu Press

XII
I’ve been rolling since my birth.
All these places have their moments, with lovers and friends I still can recall.
Some are dead and some are living. In my life I’ve loved them all.
I’ve lived a life of rogue and queen, and dyed my hair to fit the scene.
Maybe I’ve got no more foolish pride.
I’ve been loved and I’ve been lied to, and found a few shoulders I could cry to.
I’m so tired of acting tough and I’m gonna do what I please.
All those years I thought life naughty. She made me beautiful at forty.
Non, je ne regrette rien.
I’m harder than you think.

Right now and not later.
It’s time to spread our wings and fly.
Love is all around me, and so the feeling grows.
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic.
Imagine all the people sharing all the world.
Let your love fly like a bird on a wing.
And let your love bind you to all living things.
And let your love shine and you’ll know what I mean.
Get up and show no fear.
You’ve got the love.

Thank you frailty.
I get by with a little help from my friends.
Thank you disillusionment.
It’s something unpredictable, but in the end is right.
Thank you providence.
I hope you had the time of your life.
Thank you clarity.
Here comes the sun and I say it’s all right.
